the Bear SG fudgie went to Caesar's also.. there's also a Caesar's near my office.. Textile Centre i look at the one a Sheares.. pretty much real swords too.. before they closed shop at Golden Mile Hawker Centre (army surplus market), they had a lot of things there.. swords, halberds, bucklers, morning stars... serious! Caesars' kind of rip people off badly btw, Sheares sell lots of types of swords... i think i'd actually part with a few thousand bucks for a true forged Katana
fudgester SG So... did you guys read about the lightsaber that I want and the totally 'unrelated news' after that?
the Bear SG he collects a lot of toys... i wanted a little remote controlled R2 unit he bought in Japan.. looking around to see if they sell it here.. it's very small.. the R2 unit is about the size of a thumb
seow SG My kaki bought throwing stars in thailand, looked rather ugly though. xD He said he also saw samurai katanas. thai weapons market.
the Bear SG these days, no way, no how are they getting in without a license btw, katana forged in a traditional forge, is insanely expensive
the Bear SG they are still used as weapons.. and there are still people who make them.. takes months from raw ore.. the master swordsmith will go pick out the smelted iron and then go back to his forge to treat the iron with correct amounts of carbon to make 2 types of steel... one for the cutting edge which is hard and brittle, the other is softer for the strength so that the sword doesn't shatter... it's forged straight until it is tempered.. the cutting edge shrinks less than the softer blunt side, giving it the identifying curve it's then sent to be sharpened and the polisher who painstakingly polishes it by hand... each of his polishing stone is worth thousands too
the Bear SG nope.. it is very very hard work.. they have to look after apprentices too... and an art which is a national treasure.. not everything is about $$$
